Featured Author: Tina (click here)

My first featured author today is Tina.  She wrote a story about a time things did not go the way she planned.  Please notice the strategies she used to organize her paper into paragraphs.

Understanding that she is aiming to publish a story that is only one page long, next time I would encourage Tina to find a few places in the middle of her paper to revise and trim down.  I love the beginning and end of her story and would encourage her not to remove any of her introduction, conclusion, or heart.

Featured Author: Alissa (click here)

My second featured author today is Alissa.  She wrote a very encouraging story about solving a problem.  Alissa is a huge fan of soccer and can always tell you an interesting story about her favorite sport.  Read below and see if you can identify the important message she wants us to take away as we read her paper.

Alissa is working to organize her stories into paragraphs and use indentions to begin her new paragraphs.  ( For more information on indentions, please see Javier's story )

Featured Author: Sandra (click here)

Sandra was asked to write about a time she was in a new place or situation and explain how she reacted.  She worked hard and wrote a great story about the first day at a new school.  The heart of her story is something many us can make a connection to.  Sandra and I discussed dividing her future writing into paragraphs to provide clarity to the reader.  I included her pre-writing because Sandra has a very unique way of using a word web.

Below, Sandra planed her story using a double topic T-chart.  She determined her topic, problem, and heart before she drafted her story.

Sandra is a wonderful artist!  It is no surprise to me that her pre-writing is done in such a creative way.  The middle of the flower is her central idea, and each petal contains ideas that she wants to include in her story.

Please comment below and leave Sandra positive feedback on her writing.

Featured Author: Jacoryain (click here)

This afternoon, I have two very exciting short stories from Jacoryain.

Detective Brave J.J. and the Case of the Stolen Diamond is the first story in an action packed series about a young, brave detective that fights crimes.  I know I CAN"T wait for the next story!

The next story is about the old mysterious house that used to belong to Mr. Jenkins.  Depsite all the warning signs, for some reason my students keep visiting this haunting place.  They all live to share their own unique scary tale.

Featured Author: Abraham (click here)

All of my students know I am a HUGE Texas Rangers fan!  I made a personal connection to this story because I can relate to the anxiety and frustration Abraham felt. This story is Abraham's experience with his father watching the heartbreaking game 6 of the World Series.

To improve Abraham's writing in the future, we learned to organize his ideas into paragraphs.

Writing Camp

Today our writing classes had a wonderful opportunity to be a part of writing camp! We took a short trip across the street, where we were greeted by six energetic presenters who each had fun writing activities planned.  Today our authors learned more about hooking their reader with introductions, wrapping up a story in a memorable and meaningful way with conclusions, adding a smooth flow with transitional phrases, proving it! with sensory details, elaborating to add supporting details, and how to tackle an espository prompt.

We all had special and memorable moments that stood out to us.  Please comment below and share something new you learned, a moment or presentation you enjoyed, or something to help other growing authors.

I'll go first. I enjoyed the moment when I spoke to Ms. Terry, and she told me she loved the enthuasiasm my students have towards writing stories. Also, I learned Harry Potter is full of sensory details!!

Featured Author: Joey (click here)

My second featured author is Joey.  He typed a short expository story about his family.

He was given a creative writing assignment that challenged him to use as many of his "family member" spelling words as possible in a short expository story.  Remembering that he is writing to inform and explain, Joey chose many interesting facts to share about his family.

Also, if this is your first time reading my blog, be sure to check out and comment on yesterday's featured author in the post below this one.
