Featured Author: Bella (click here)

Our second featured author this year is Bella.  She is in a fourth grade and her sister, Brenen, is in third grade. You will soon see that wonderful writing runs in their family.

(You can read Brenen's story below, or you can click here)

Their mother works at a local college.  She challenged her daughters with the same writing prompt she gave her college students.  As you can see below, Bella did an excellent job explaining her life goals in her expository paper.

Writing Camp

Today our writing classes had a wonderful opportunity to be a part of writing camp! We took a short trip across the street, where we were greeted by six energetic presenters who each had fun writing activities planned.  Today our authors learned more about hooking their reader with introductions, wrapping up a story in a memorable and meaningful way with conclusions, adding a smooth flow with transitional phrases, proving it! with sensory details, elaborating to add supporting details, and how to tackle an espository prompt.

We all had special and memorable moments that stood out to us.  Please comment below and share something new you learned, a moment or presentation you enjoyed, or something to help other growing authors.

I'll go first. I enjoyed the moment when I spoke to Ms. Terry, and she told me she loved the enthuasiasm my students have towards writing stories. Also, I learned Harry Potter is full of sensory details!!

Featured Author: Joey (click here)

My second featured author is Joey.  He typed a short expository story about his family.

He was given a creative writing assignment that challenged him to use as many of his "family member" spelling words as possible in a short expository story.  Remembering that he is writing to inform and explain, Joey chose many interesting facts to share about his family.

Also, if this is your first time reading my blog, be sure to check out and comment on yesterday's featured author in the post below this one.

Please comment below and let him know what you think about his story!
